University of Auckland now on the APAC Grid (through BeSTGRID)

The University of Auckland has now got a fully operational computational grid gateway that can be used to transparently connect computational resources at the institution to those throughout New Zealand and Australia. Building on the work of the Australian National GRID and the Victorian Partnership for for Advanced computing, and within New Zealand with the BeSTGRID project, programmer Andrey Kharuk successfully installed the first gateway which now registers University of Auckland resources on the APAC grid operations centre and associated tools.

Here is a live 15min presentation I did at the KAREN “Building Communities for Collaboration” Conference early July about our BeSTGRID project. It highlights some of our services and demonstrates how one could engage with the computational GRID.

Karen Champion Award - for all of the BeSTGRID team

At the inaugural KAREN Awards Ceremony at last week’s KAREN “Building communities for collaboration” conference, I was given a “KAREN Champion” award. This is really an award I would like to share with the entire BeSTGRID project team — particularly the other project leads and project manager: A/Prof Neil Gemmell (Canterbury), Dr Chris Messom (Massey) and Nick Jones (University of Auckland), the programmers and the Steering Committee members.
